Ray Bond
President and CEO
Ray Bond is president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc., and Fru-Con Construction, LLC, industry-leading heavy civil and rail infrastructure contractors. Together these U.S. companies employ more than 1,000 employees and generate more than $500 million in revenues. Bond is responsible for all matters of leadership, direction and corporate administration for the combined companies, which focus on building and maintaining major U.S. infrastructure projects - primarily bridges, highways, rail systems, roads, tunnels, and water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Prior to being named president and CEO in September 2010, Bond worked seven years as chief financial officer for Balfour Beatty, LLC., the holding company for the U.S. interests of Balfour Beatty plc, a global engineering, construction, services and investment business organization specializing in large infrastructure and building programs.
As CFO for Balfour Beatty, LLC., Bond was responsible for managing the financial and tax reporting for the group’s six U.S. operating companies. He was also involved in operational issues for Balfour Beatty Infrastructure and Balfour Beatty Rail, and played a key role in numerous U.S. acquisitions for the group, including Heery’s acquisition of Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc., a major west coast building management and professional services firm.
Bond joined Balfour Beatty in 1996 as finance director for the group’s new rail division in London, where he was charged with developing a new structure for the £450 million business unit and identifying which product groups would be merged and how business markets would be segmented. Two years later he was promoted to operations director of the division’s largest subsidiary, the £220 million Balfour Beatty Rail Maintenance Ltd, where he succeeded in increasing revenues and reducing direct costs per unit by 8% year-over-year. In 2000 Bond was asked to take on a general manager role and assist with the turnaround of Balfour Beatty Rail Maintenance’s Wessex Region, responsible for 1300 track miles in southwest England. There he succeeded in repairing client relationships and achieved profitability. Recognizing his success for turning around underperforming businesses, the parent company named him CFO of the U.S. businesses in 2003.
Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, Bond held a variety of senior finance and operational roles of increasing responsibility in the UK construction and manufacturing industries, working for key operating companies at Lionheart plc, Norcross plc and Marconi.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Bond reports to Robert Van Cleave, head of Balfour Beatty plc’s U.S. Construction Services group. Originally from Clapham, London, he received a Bachelor’s in Accountancy and Finance from Heriot-Watt University in 1983 and became a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in 1987. He resides in Atlanta with his wife Claire and two daughters and enjoys sailing, skiing and motorcycling.
