Safety Programs
At Fru-Con, adherence to safe work practices that protect the well-being of every employee is more than a statement. It is a deep and abiding commitment – to our employees, our clients and the communities in which we work. Safety is more important than profit, quality or schedule.
Safety is a core value of Fru-Con. It is reinforced by a comprehensive employee safety and health policies that encompass highly disciplined practices and systems, and supported with a comprehensive, top-down commitment. Daily safe work practices education, internal measurement and external benchmarking, and team awards and recognition contribute to our corporate culture of “safety first.”
As a Balfour Beatty company, Fru-Con is engaged in the boldest safety initiative in the history of the construction industry: Zero Harm®. Launched globally in 2008, Zero Harm is a way of taking our already strong safety record to the next level, an unprecedented level within our industry. Zero Harm means that the goal of every employee to have no serious injuries or long-term harm caused by our work.
Fru-Con’s total workers’ compensation claims, which are injuries requiring medical attention, have continued a downward trend since 2004. This is truly significant because of the pyramid effect of injuries. Industry statistics show that for every 100 injuries requiring medical attention, 10 will be recordable and one will result in lost time. Reducing the number of recordable injuries and lost-time injuries requires diligent attention to preventing workers’ compensation claims.
Our goal is to send all employees home in exactly the same condition in which they arrived – except maybe tired. We are grateful to each employee for their safety practices that make our goals achievable.
